چکیده

Few interfaces of 3D systems have been evaluated empirically. Designers frequently claim that their technique is ‘better’ than other techniques but with little evidence to support their claim. StEP(3D), a standardized evaluation plan for the usability of 3D interaction techniques, uses discount methods for performance-based evaluation. It is simple enough that anyone can compare interfaces without special equipment or experience. This paper describes the development and empirical evaluation of StEP(3D). Eighteen recommendations are made for developing future StEPs based on our results and experiences.

Evaluation of a fast method of EPID-based dosimetry for IMRT and Comparison with 3D EPID-based dosimetry system using conventional two- and three-dimensional detectors for VMAT

Introduction: Electronic portal imaging devices (EPIDs) could potentially be useful for intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) and VMAT QA. The data density, high resolution, large active area, and efficiency of the MV EPID make it an attractive option. However, EPIDs were designed as imaging devices, not dosimeters, and as a result they do not inherently measure dose in ...

Empirical Evaluation Assistant Tool for 3D Interaction Techniques

Designing usable and effective 3D Interaction Technique (IT) for Virtual Environment (VE) is very challenging for system developers and human factors specialists. Indeed, time consuming empirical evaluation is necessary to have an idea about the goodness of an IT at the end of its development lifecycle. This may induce a huge loss of time if the result appears to be under expectations at the en...

Design and Evaluation of Animated 3d User Interfaces

With the proliferation of virtual environments in real-world applications effective interface design and usability testing for virtual environments becomes increasingly important. Since 3D interfaces are not based on a set of standardized widgets the tasks of user orientation, interface presentation and interaction feedback require special attention during the design of 3D environments. Animati...

Continuous Mental Effort Evaluation During 3D Object Manipulation Tasks Based on Brain and Physiological Signals

Designing 3D User Interfaces (UI) requires adequate evaluation tools to ensure good usability and user experience. While many evaluation tools are already available and widely used, existing approaches generally cannot provide continuous and objective measures of usability qualities during interaction without interrupting the user. In this paper, we propose to use brain (with ElectroEncephaloGr...

Design of a 3D Navigation Technique Supporting VR Interaction

Multimodality is a powerful paradigm to increase the realness and the easiness of the interaction in Virtual Environments (VEs). In particular, the search for new metaphors and techniques for 3D interaction adapted to the navigation task is an important stage for the realization of future 3D interaction systems that support multimodality, in order to increase efficiency and usability. In this p...
